Here's the Scoop.

I've been working on this blog post in my mind since March 20. It's been a really long time coming. Basically, it's the same old story. . . . too much ice cream, not so much gym time. In March, I was "in training" in preparation for my California trip with Tracie. I had big plans and goals. The motivating clothes were hanging on the wall. Then I found out that I didn't have a job in the fall. I didn't get depressed, surprisingly, but later that night Tracie and Laura were watching "Biggest Loser" at my house. There was a commercial for the casting call for the next season, I looked it up for the second time (I'd contemplated it briefly before) and saw that BL would be in Salt lake for an open casting call that Saturday (Mar. 20). I thought and thought and thought and then called my parents and asked their opinions and decided that I would go. It was the perfect time, I wouldn't have a class to prepare for during the summer, and I would work out the job stuff when I got home. I prayed about it and felt like it was a good plan. I didn't feel overly confident that I would "get it", but the closer it got to Saturday, the more excited I got.
Saturday came, I was up bright and early, had prepared myself by showering and doing my hair and putting on clean clothes (some were not that prepared) and headed down town. The notification said not to line up before 7, but when I got there, the line was half way around the block, as people had been lining up since 3:30. I found a couple of ladies to stand in line with (the one girl found me and together we invited the other lady) and it made the day go by much quicker. Don't worry, on my way to the end of the line I totally "biphed" it in classic me style, which is in front of many many people, but I shook it off like a pro. 8 hours later, it was finally my turn. I reviewed everything I'd read and psyched myself up to "be myself" and "be heard" and "be prepared" and went in with my group. There were about 12 of us that sat around a table with one of the casting directors. She went around the table three times. She asked each of us our name, age and weight loss goal, our occupation, and our food weakness. Then she thanked us and sent us on our way. To say the least, it was very anti-climactic.
We were told that call-back calls would be made that night, and if we didn't get one, we could still send in a video. I didn't get a call. I wasn't too bummed. I won't lie, I was bummed, but there was no crying. I think I was probably relieved. As tough as I think I am, I don't know if I'm "last chance workout" tough. Ok, maybe, but there would be a lot of crying and after my year of middle school? A good chance of profanity as well.
I remember telling Tracie mid-week as I was preparing that if this BL thing didn't pan out, that she had to promise to keep me to doing it on my own. Well, California came and went. Good times, but the goal-shorts stayed on the shelf. The 6:00 a.m. workouts just didn't happen. And haven't, since before the BL casting. I have made it to the gym a few times in the last two months, but not nearly enough to make a difference.
Well, shoulda-woulda-coulda is over, my friends. If I plan on doing a triathlon, I should probably start working on that. And one of the most effective things about BL is the accountability. They don't just weigh in once a week in their bathrooms. They weigh in once a week in front of the nation. Millions of people are keeping them accountable. That, and $250k. I wish I could do it for the money, but the feelings of self accomplishment and better health will have to do.
This is where you come in. I need to have accountability. So. Starting today, I have posted a ticker here on the blog that will keep track of my goal. I'm taking it in chunks so it feels less overwhelming. Thanks for all the support, because I already know I have great cheerleaders. If anyone wants to take a spinning class or play tennis, let me know!
Phase one starts NOW.

Why being a teacher is worth it.

I got a card today from K. The front says, "Happy Appreciation Week Ms. Paul".
Inside:
Dear,
Ms. Paul I just want to tell you Thank you for being a great teacher you rock. T. said to tell you that she hopes that you have a great B-day. Me too I hope that you have an awesome birthday. you should sing more often in class. I like it when you sing.
You Rock,
K.

And I got another card in my box signed by several students,
"Dear Ms. Paul you are one of the Best Teacher I have Even thow that I always get you mad and I don't pay attention but you are a awsome Teacher I thank myself for having you"

It doesn't get better than that!!

p.s. the reference to my birthday. . . .I have told my students that there will be a large fiesta on the day before we leave for Memorial day weekend to celebrate my birthday. It will be HUGE. They're very excited. Maybe because it marks the end of "real learning" and the intro of fun week.

Dear Biggest Loser. . . . WHA??????

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet watched this weeks BL, exit my blog immediately. Or read and be pleasantly surprised. Here are some random pictures so you don't accidentally see any info. Good grief, it's not like I'm telling you who the winner is.

Ok. Ready? So first of all, I'm super glad that Michael has another week because even though I think he's pretty whiny most of the time (did you see the promo for next week? throw a fit, why don't ya!), he looked awesome with his makeover and he does need it way more than Sam. But second of all? SAM and STEPHANIE????? Who would have thought? Not me, but I think it's super cute. I smell another proposal at the finale. . . . what is that, third in a row? They have a better success rate than The Bachelor! How cute was Sam, though, saying something about the best "at home prize". Cute. So ridiculously cute.

I love me some CALI!!!

Huntington Beach. Beautiful. Perfect.Tracie's bruise on the bottom of her foot from her sprained ankle. She was a champ the whole trip.
This lucky bucky survived the ocean in Tracie's mizuno shorts. It was a miracle.

I really love this picture, it really shows T's personality. And orange knees.
I personally believe that this bird was super glued to the rail because it did not move. Creepy.

Best onion rings I've ever had. And I don't even like onions. Six Flags on Sunday. It was a lot of fun, a lot of lines, a lot of ghetto lovin' and a few bum cracks.
Nothin' like a real fly pose in the "O" at California adventures. What a treat.

I think we might be related.
Brayden asked, "are you really kissing Woody?" Almost. Didn't want to get Bo Peep jealous though.

Ha ha ha. So Tracie and I had just gotten off the Jungle Cruise and saw that to our left, Jasmine and Aladdin were signing autographs. We hung out and watched them for a little bit. Or a lot a bit. It was funny. Brando, our new friend, came over and said, "It's almost like watching tv isn't it?" Then we sang a little, laughed a little, and then we had to take a picture. Tracie had a bit of a time with the telefoto button.Nothing beats Disneyland fireworks. Nothing.
We really really loved posing for the pictures. We even bought one from Splash Mountain that I need to scan and post. Hilarious.

Lunch at the Blue Bayou. I was so so excited. It had been about 13 years since I last had the Monte Cristo sandwich and believe me, it did not disappoint. Neither did the gumbo. Amazing.
How did we not know about the Blessed Dole Whip? Tracie probably would have swam in it.

Good times. Good times.

Where have I been all your life?

It's been a while. Enjoy!
